Lotto Plus 1 Odds of Winning

Lotto Plus 1 is such an easy way of playing the lottery, since it’s an extension of the standard Lotto game. You’re simply playing the same set of numbers in another draw!

Along with the simplicity, it’s clear why this game has been so popular since its inception in 2003. There are excellent odds, such as a one in 72 chance of winning a fixed prize amount in tier 7.

Here are all eight tiers for this game, very similar to the standard Lotto game, but with a different pool fund.

CategoryGeneral NumbersBonus BallOdds of Winning
Division 1601:20,358,520
Division 2511:3,393,086.67
Division 3501:75,401.93
Division 4411:30,160.77
Division 5401:1,370.94
Division 6311:1,028.21
Division 7301:71.7
Division 8211:95.6

Remember, there’s also a Lotto Plus 2 game you can join in!

Lotto Plus 1 Prize Breakdown

When playing Lotto games, including Lotto Plus 1, you’ll wait until the night of the draw to discover the exact prizes available for each tier. This is because in this game the prize pool depends on the ticket sales. Then, a percentage of the prize pool is used for each division, as shown in the table below.

The amount of money allocated to a specific division will be divided between all winners in that category.

DivisionNumbers Matched% of Prize Pool/Fixed Prize
1653%
25+Bonus Ball8.1%
355.4%
44+Bonus Ball6.7%
5413.4%
63+Bonus Ball13.4%
73ZAR25
82+Bonus BallZAR15

These prize pool guidelines don’t affect Division 7 and 8, because there are fixed prizes for those two tiers.

Furthermore, an interesting scenario presents itself if there are no winners in a specific category between Division 2 and Division 6. Roll down rules will then be initiated and the prize money of the division without winners will be distributed between all winners in the division below.

When your lottery agent buys authentic Lotto Plus 1 tickets on your behalf, operator rules may mean you need to claim large prizes like jackpots in person. This could require international players to travel to South Africa.

FAQs

Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 draws form part of the process of sharing the Lotto draw results. These sessions take place twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, just before 9pm (CET).

The Lotto Plus 1 draw is done by using a random number generator. The results of this RNG process are showcased on SABC 2 on TV, or you can play videos of the results any time after the draw on the ITHUBA YouTube channel. The operator also keeps players up to date via its Twitter page and this is an excellent platform to check the dividends for each prize category.
Certain payouts for Lotto Plus 1 are quick, since you can claim at a retailer and immediately get paid, or receive payments within 24 hours after the draw if you used an app. When you’re eligible for large payouts, be prepared to wait 72 hours for app payments though. Anyone playing via an online lottery site must review the payout policies to discover how long you’ll need to wait.

If you need to claim a prize in person, you’ll have one year from the day of the draw – 365 days – to submit a claim. Make sure you keep your ticket safe. It’s best to sign it so you have proof it’s yours on the day you make your claim.

Players taking part in Lotto Plus 1 benefit from rollover jackpot rules. This allows the jackpot to grow each time no one wins the big prize.

There are also roll down rules for lower prize divisions. Although it’s unlikely, if there are no winners in a certain category, that division’s prize money will be shared between the winners in the tier below.

The Lotto and Lotto Plus games have good odds, especially in comparison to SA Powerball. You have a one in 20,358,520 chance of getting the jackpot. However, an even easier South African Lottery to play is the Daily Lotto with its odds of 1 in 376,992 of being a jackpot winner.

Both Lotto Plus 1 and Plus 2 are add-on games to the standard Lotto game. By paying a fee you get the benefit of entering your Lotto numbers for additional draws. When using all three of these Lotto games, your set of numbers gives you three chances of winning.

You can win a prize in Lotto Plus 1 if you get 4 main numbers correct, or 3 main numbers and the Bonus Ball. In both cases your winnings will be around 13.4% of the prize pool but the exact amount depends on ticket sales and number of winners. Historical data places the prize money for getting any 4 balls correctly at between ZAR110 and ZAR150.

These two games are similar, carrying the same odds and game setup. However, they have separate prize pools, so prize amounts differ. Also, you need to play Lotto Plus 1 in order to be able to play Lotto Plus 2.

For South African players, Lotto Plus 1 will cost you an additional ZAR2.50 on top of the ZAR5.00 you pay to play Lotto. If you want to play Lotto Plus 2, you’ll pay a further ZAR2.50. You must play Lotto Plus 1 in order to play Lotto Plus 2
