EuroMillions Prize Breakdown
To win a prize in EuroMillions you pick 5 general numbers and 2 Lucky Star numbers. The size of prizes all depend on how many tickets they sold for the draw and how many people end up in each prize category.
You only have to get two of the general numbers correct and then you may win a big enough prize to purchase another ticket, so it won’t cost you to keep on playing!

There are noteworthy add-on games to consider. Look out for them when playing in Europe, or inquire if your online lottery site supports these options. We explain them and other important Euromillions prize facts below:
- UK Millionaire Maker: In the UK, along with your standard EuroMillions ticket, you can enter a raffle draw. This is a free option and operates based on unique codes printed on tickets. The Millionaire Maker raffle offers one prize of £1 million and the draw takes place using an ADM (automated draw machine).
- Ireland Only Raffle: This is also a free game option that EuroMillions players in Ireland are entered for automatically. Usually there are 10 prizes up for grabs, each to the value of €5,000. On occasions, bigger prizes are also on offer.
- When a jackpot is won, the main prize reverts back to the minimum jackpot amount of €17 million.
- Being a capped jackpot, the main prize won’t grow indefinitely. Once it reaches the maximum amount it can stay at that level for a maximum of four draws before it’s distributed to Tier 2 winners.
- Rules also stipulate that each time the maximum amount is won or rolled down to Tier 2, the cap increases by €10 million.
EuroMillions Draw Schedule
One reason why the jackpot reaches its cap amount often is because there are two draws each week. As it’s hosted in Paris, it takes place in the same time zone as South Africa, making it easy to watch the draw or wait for results to be published soon after the event. No need to get up early as is the case with US lottery draws.
Day of the Week | Time | Time for South African Players |
---|---|---|
Tuesday | 9 pm (EEST) | Tuesday 9 pm |
Friday | 9 pm (EEST) | Friday 9 pm |

FAQs
There are two EuroMillions draws each week. They take place on Tuesday and Fridays. The draws are done around 20:00 but the results are available from 20:15 onwards.
The waiting period for payouts depends on the country your ticket is purchased in. Small amounts are often available immediately, but it can take up to 4 weeks for larger amounts. When using online sites to bet on outcomes, certain payments will also happen immediately, while bigger claims may require you to wait during verification periods.
Each country has its own policy regarding claims periods. There’s a maximum of 3 years, as is the case in Austria, but it can also be as short as 60 days. Consult your operator or online site if you’re unsure and make sure you don’t miss out on a prize.
Yes, in EuroMillions the jackpot amount rolls over if it’s not won. However, there’s a jackpot cap and currently the main prize won’t grow larger than €240 million. Also, this big prize will only stay in place for a maximum of four draws. If it’s still not won, the prize money is distributed between Tier 2 winners and the jackpot returns to its starting amount.
Euromillions is just as easy to win as Eurojackpot, as they carry similar odds. Both of these are much easier to win than other popular lotteries like Mega Millions in the US. South Africans can compare odds and will see that local lotteries like Lotto give you a much bigger chance of being a jackpot winner.
