La Primitiva Odds of Winning

The odds of winning a prize in Spain’s La Primitiva lottery is affected by the interesting game setup. This lottery incorporates a Reintegro (Refund) number as well as a complimentary number (Bonus number) which is drawn after the general numbers have been picked. These numbers will be taken into account for certain prize tiers. For example, ‘Reintegro’ refers to being refunded the cost of a ticket if that’s the only number you pick correctly.

This table shows all the prize tiers and the odds of being one of the winners.

There is an additional feature to the Spanish game, called ‘Joker’:

  • It costs a small additional fee to play.
  • When playing with official tickets in Spain, there’s a 7-digit number that the La Primitiva computer system generates when you purchase a ticket.
  • If your own number sequence matches all or some of these digits, you win a prize.
  • You have a 1 in 10 million chance of winning the main prize of €1 million.

Note that this feature isn’t available for all international players, because online lottery sites don’t always offer it.

Remember that the La Primitiva lottery is not the same as the El Gordo de la Primitiva lottery. They’re both Spanish lotteries and hosted by the same operator, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, but different in terms of game setup and prizes. The El Gordo de la Primitiva is only played on Sundays. Make sure which one you want to take part in and when the relevant results will be available.

FAQs

The operators of La Primitiva provide draw footage of all the lotteries they manage and you can access these videos on their website. Although they do have social media pages, these aren’t kept up to date with the latest draw information.

Smaller amounts can be claimed the day after the La Primitiva draw if you visit a registered sales point. The organisers’ online system will also pay out small wins immediately. For bigger amounts you’ll need to wait for a claims process to be completed before you receive your money. When using online lottery sites, their policies will determine payout timelines.

Rules of the Spain La Primitiva lottery states you have three months to use your ticket and claim a prize. Once this has lapsed, the ticket will be invalid.

Yes, a rollover system is in place with the Spanish La Primitiva lottery. The main prize grows each time there’s no jackpot winner. The rules don’t stipulate any jackpot cap, so the money grows until someone wins it.

Compared to popular lotteries around the globe, such as US Powerball, the La Primitiva jackpot is one of the easier ones to win. However, there are even easier lotteries to try out, such as the SA Powerball with a one in 42,375,200 chance of walking away with a huge jackpot prize.
